History of the Hospital Doctors Hospital was founded as a community medical/surgical hospital in 1959. Since that time, it has developed into a full-service 232-bed acute care facility with three medical office buildings on campus. A medical staff with expertise in numerous specialties works in conjunction with an experienced nursing and ancillary staff to provide our patients with advanced medical technology in a community hospital environment.
Doctors Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is a certified Medicare and Medicaid provider. Key services offered include:
- A newly expanded, eighteen-bed, 24-HOUR EMERGENCY department is staffed with physicians and nurses specially trained in emergency medicine and advanced cardiac life support. Also, the Emergency Department is equipped with a computerized patient tracking system designed to help staff diagnosis and treat patients efficiently to reduce waiting times.
- Our HEART CENTER is equipped to perform diagnostic cardiac, catheterizations, cardiac and peripheral angioplasty, valvuloplasty, eletrophysiology studies, stents, and arthrectomies.
- A wide range of DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES are available on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- SURGICAL SERVICES range from open-heart and neurosurgery to outpatient (same-day) surgery.
- An ORTHOPEDIC CENTER provides a comprehensive approach in the diagnosis and treatment of problems related to the musculoskeletal system.
- A LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE UNIT specializes in treating patients who have experienced consequences of catastrophic illness.
- Our newly remodeled MATERNITY CENTER includes prenatal and postnatal education as well as labor, delivery and recovery rooms (LDRs), which allow for the birthing experience to take place in one quiet, comfortable room. Call 214-324-6433 for a brochure or department tour.
- BREAST CARE services include mammography, stereotactic fine needle, core and surgical biopsy.
- THE DIABETES CENTER strives to improve the quality of life for diabetics while offering interactive support between families and staff members. The center also serves mothers with gestational diabetes, and may be reached at 214-324-9290.
- THE SPORTS AND INDUSTRY CARE CENTER offers physical therapy, occupational medicine, sports medicine, and cardiac rehab. For a free evaluation, call 214-324-6000.
- THE PAIN MEDICINE CENTER includes pain management, occupational medicine, physical therapy and psychological evaluation and treatment for those who experience chronic pain. Call 214-324-6050.
- DOCTORS WOUND CENTER is a full-service treatment program for patients with acute and chronic wounds. Appointments can be made by calling 214-324-6770.
- HOME HEALTH CARE is an alternative that allows you to be cared for in the more familiar and comfortable surroundings of your own home. First Community HomeCare is available 24 hours at 214-328-9449. If you are in the hospital and wish to inquire about home health care, please let your nurse know and we will send a representative to speak with you about First Community HomeCare.
- HOSPICE services provide a special kind of caring for terminally ill patients and their families. Persons with a life expectancy of six months or less and who are no longer seeking curative treatments may be eligible for hospice care. Hospice care can be rendered at home or in a nursing home and includes:
- The management of pain and other distressing symptoms
- Instruction to the patient and family
- Explanation of the illness and preparation for what to expect as the disease progresses
- Emotional and spiritual support for both the patient and family

- SOCIAL SERVICES at Doctors Hospital is available if you need information regarding nursing homes, live-in care, hospice or other community resources. We are also available for emotional support for patients and their family members. Please contact your social worker at 214-324-6414.
- THE TRANSFUSION FREE MEDICINE AND SURGERY CENTER is managed with medical staff guidance as an alternative for patients who choose to receive medical and/or surgical care without the use of blood transfusions. A program coordinator maintains the integrity of the program and assists patients with health-care decisions as well as refers patients to physicians suited to their needs. Available 24 hours a day, the program coordinator can be reached at 1-800-436-8181.
- COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION seminars are offered regularly and are presented free of charge by affiliated medical staff and health professionals. Low cost screenings and health fairs may be provided. Call 1-888-TENET-4U for current information.
- Our PHYSICIAN REFERRAL SERVICE offers you more than 400 Doctors Hospital affiliated physicians with medical expertise in a variety of specialties. Call 1-888-TENET-4U (1-888-836-3848) to reach our free physician referral service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- PRESTIGE CARE is a free senior membership program at Doctors Hospital. Membership is extended to anyone 60 years of age and older and offers several benefits including the use of our indoor walking track.
