Stroke Care Recognized by American Heart Assoication
Friday, 22 July 2011
Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake has again been recognized for its quality stroke care—this time, with a Bronze Achievement Award from the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke (GWTG-Stroke) program.

The award signifies that Doctors Hospital has complied with at least 85 percent of the GWTG-Stroke program’s achievement measures for at least 90 consecutive days. Described as “the premier hospital-based quality improvement program,” GTWG-Stroke helps ensure that a hospital’s care for stroke patients is performed using the latest scientific guidelines.

“We are delighted to be recognized for our stroke program excellence, and this new achievement is certainly no exception,” Doctors Hospital CEO Scott Manis said. “Our physicians and staff work tirelessly to provide the best possible patient care, and the GTWG-Stroke program helps us spotlight their dedication through a number of specific measurements.”

This is not the first time the American Heart Association has recognized Doctors Hospital’s commitment to guideline adherence. In 2009, the hospital earned a Gold Achievement Award from the GWTG program for the treatment of heart failure and coronary artery disease.

Doctors Hospital was also recognized for its stroke care last November, when it received a Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification program. The distinction was awarded for following national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.
