Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake collaborates with the Arthritis Foundation to conduct the Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program. This recreational exercise program is designed to accommodate the abilities of individuals with arthritis and other related diseases. These programs are taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to:
-
Encourage self care
-
Provide social interaction
-
Improve muscular strength, endurance and flexibility
-
Maintain independence
-
Manage pain
-
Relieve symptoms of arthritis
Program instructors are trained to develop classes to meet the emotional, mental, physical, and social needs of the person with arthritis. Classes include exercise and education to focus on wellness and a healthy lifestyle for the whole person not merely the symptoms of arthritis. Joint protection, energy conservation, and relaxation are included in each class to offer strategies for symptom management and self-sufficiency.
