Dallas - Health Care providers and facilities have long emphasized the need for preventive medicine -- a philosophy that embraces the idea of taking good care of today's resources in order to prepare for a healthier tomorrow.
With that attitude, many in the health care industry are now making the effort to clean up the environment and preserve the Earth's resources. This concept is really innovative - marrying concerns for health and environment.
As part of Tenet Healthcare’s initiative to support efforts to be a more ‘green’ company, a pilot project was launched in March 2008 at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake and four other Tenet hospitals. The goal was to help minimize each hospitals ‘environmental footprint’ and reduce the amount of waste sent to local landfills.
“Through environmentally friendly waste management practices such as creative recycling and reusing materials, the community we serve will experienced the positive impact of our efforts to diminish waste,” says Mitch Edgeworth, chief executive officer at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake.
These implemented waste management practices include 100 tons of solid waste diverted from a local landfill to a recycling center and shredding and recycling an average of 14,300 paper and cardboard pounds per month.
“As we celebrate our 50th year of service to the community, we are pleased our hospital continues to grow and evolve in ways that not only impact patient care but also improves the community at large,” says Edgeworth.
