Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake will honor the dedication of the men and women who provide day-to-day life-saving services of medicine’s “front line” during National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, which is celebrated May 20 to 26. Hospitals nationwide have been celebrating National EMS Week since 1974 to recognize first-responders who provide an essential service by quickly assessing and rendering aid in situations that can range from car accidents to heart attacks.
“Emergency medical personnel play a very important role at our hospital,” says Keith Lepak, M.D., medical director of the Emergency Department at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake. “They help improve the quality of life for everyone through life-saving endeavors and are a vital link in the chain of survival. We are proud to partner with them in saving lives.”
The goal of the week-long tribute is to give the community an opportunity to thank the public servants who commit their lives to helping residents in times of crisis and emergency throughout the year. First-responders include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, firefighters and police, who are either paid or volunteer.
“It is important for patients to know that they are being cared for by qualified, caring professionals,” says Dale Serie, director of the emergency department at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake. “National EMS Week gives us the opportunity to recognize the efforts of these heroes and to say ‘thank you’ for often going above and beyond the call of duty to save lives.”
