"If you insist on measuring yourself, place the tape around your heart, rather than your head." - Carol Trabelle

Doctors Hospital relies on our volunteer team to provide those “extras” found throughout our hospital. They provide special services and assistance designed to enhance our recognized customer service culture. In 2012 nearly 100 volunteers served our hospital in many ways!
You may find, in these areas below, an activity that appeals to you.  Here are a few areas in which you might find a place:

Patient Care

Volunteers for patient care are people oriented and enjoy interacting with our patients. They assist in our nursing units, Day Surgery, Radiology and in the Emergency Department in responding to our patient’s extra needs. Volunteers provide comfort items to patients, help in patient discharge and in patient transport. They also provide clerical support to the nursing and supervisory staff.

Administrative-Clerical Opportunities
Detailed-oriented volunteers may lend a hand in any one of the hospital’s departments which support patient care areas. These departments might include Laboratory, Pharmacy, Finance, Central Supply or Human Resources. The tasks for our volunteers in this area cover the full scope of office routines and administrative requirements: including filing, copying, data entry, mail processing and distribution, bulk mailings, telephone and reception duties and file maintenance.

Patient Support Services
Based on the patients need, volunteers may offer patients spiritual comfort, or reassurance about forthcoming surgery or procedure, or maybe just a friendly social visit. These volunteers will have additional training and quarterly meetings for their continuing development.

Patient Information Duties
Stationed at key locations in the hospital, these volunteers assist visitors and callers seeking patient information, often being the first face or voice to greet those seeking such help. They also act as ambassadors to escort visitors, seeing that these guests reach their destination quickly and safely. If helping people is your strong point, patient information may be the niche for you

Special Projects Activities
Would you like to share a special talent or skill you have? Unique opportunities may be available to you in craft projects for patients, software/database support and sewing groups. We can find just the place for you to use your abilities. Volunteers share from their hearts and add a special layer of caring and friendliness to our hospital.

How Do I Volunteer?
All volunteers are chosen through a comprehensive screening and interview process to assure our high standards are met. Wherever they serve, volunteers make the tangible difference. For more information, call Kimberley Sweet at 214-324-6497.
