Doctors Hospital has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval™ by The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification program.
The Joint Commission conducted an exhaustive survey of the hospital’s stroke care program to ensure it follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients. What Does A Primary Stroke Center Mean To You?
According to the Brain Attack Coalition, hospitals with stroke centers have shown improved treatment times for stroke care and better patient outcomes. Primary Stroke Centers use evidence-based medicine to establish written protocols for stroke care that are designed to improve patient care and deliver care more quickly. These protocols have been shown to reduce the number of stroke-related complications, which lead to improved quality of life for patients.
As a Primary Stroke Center, the multidisciplinary stroke team at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake is equipped to acutely treat stroke patients with the FDA approved clot dissolving medication, tPA (tissue plasminogen activator). This treatment may dramatically increase the chance of recovery after stroke, but must be administered within 3 hours of symptom onset.
Working with neurologists on the medical staff and ‘Specialists On Call’ via telemedicine we are committed to providing your patients with immediate, around-the-clock access to board certified, fellowship trained neurologists. We are able to treat patients suffering stroke or any other neurologic emergency day or night.
Exemplary stroke care requires a team approach to provide a comprehensive spectrum of services. A dedicated stroke coordinator facilitates the entire spectrum of care provided to patients, and particular emphasis is focused on education of patients and families about stroke recognition, treatment and prevention.
